NOVEC 1230 (FK 5-1-12) CLEAN AGENT FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM
Novec 1230, FK-5-1-12, C6F12O, (3M Novec 1230) is a fluorinated ketone with the systematic name 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone and the structural formula CF3CF2C(=O)CF(CF3)2 and is a fully fluorinated analog of ethyl isopropyl ketone that is commercially available from 3M. 3M™ Novec 1230 is a colourless, odourless and non conductive gas in liquid form and has been designed to in order to suppress Class A, B and C fires. Once activated, it has the ability to supress fire in the protected enclosure to minimize the damage in 10 seconds and is listed and approved by international standarts such as UL, FM and LPCB.
In order to ensure the efficiency of the system, a room integrity test should be made in the protected enclosure. The 10 second rule needs to be confirmed by the licenced hydraulic calculation software of the system manifacturer. System designs based on non-licenced softwares or the softwares which belong to different manifacturers may lead to great losses of property. 3M™ Novec 1230 fire suppression system can be installed to manned enclosures. The most important factors while designing such systems are NOAEL [No Observed Adverse Effect Level] (Highest dose at which there was not an observed toxic or adverse effect) and LOAEL [Lowest Observable Adverse Effect Level] (Lowest dose at which there was an observed toxic or adverse effect). The cylinder may be installed within the enclosure or outside the enclosure. 3M™ Novec 1230 is a popular clean agent due to the fact that it is in liquid state under atmospheric conditions and room temperature and can be stored and transported easily. Compared to HFC clean agents it has no greenhouse effect.
