FM-200 (HFC227ea) CLEAN AGENT FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM

FM-200 is the commercial brandname of the halocarbon based “HFC227ea” gas that is colourless, odourless and non-conductive.
FM-200 has been designed to suppress A, B and C class fires and is recognized by international approval authorities. Once activated, it has the ability to supress fire in an enclosure to minimize the damage in 10 seconds and is listed and approved by international standarts such as UL, FM and LPCB. In order to ensure the efficiency of the system, a room integrity test should be maintained in the protected enclosure. The 10 second rule needs to be confirmed by licenced hydraulic calculation software of the system manifacturer.

System designs based on non-licenced softwares or the softwares that belong to different manifacturers may lead to great losses of property. FM-200 fire suppression system can be installed to manned enclosures. The most important factors while designing such systems are NOAEL [No Observed Adverse Effect Level] (Highest dose at which there was not an observed toxic or adverse effect) and LOAEL [Lowest Observable Adverse Effect Level] (Lowest dose at which there was an observed toxic or adverse effect). The advantage of FM-200 compared to other clean gas systems is that it needs less storage space and leaves no residue. The cylinder may be installed within the enclosure or outside the enclosure.

FAQ

  • Is it safe to use FM-200 system in manned enclosures?

Yes, it is safe to use FM-200 in manned enclosures. The design should be made within these two parameters.

  • What are the advantages of FM-200 system?

Life safety, less storage space due to the fact that it uses less amount of gas compared to most other systems and no residue after discharge.

  • What is the system pressure?

System pressure may differ from one manifacturer to the other. Generally, there are two alternatives with 25 and 42 Bars.

  • Where and how can FM-200 clean agent be stored?

It can be stored in TPED and PED certificated, CE documented, π stamped and UL, LPCB approved cylinders with 25 or 42 Bars.

  • Should FM-200 cylinder be installed within or outside the enclosure?

First and foremost, the cylinder must be installed where it is marked on the project design. In case it is installed in a different place, the discharge time of the system may change and this may lead to the failure of the system. The cylinder may be installed inside or outside the enclosure.

  • What should be the temperature in the enclosure where cylinders are stored?

    The temperature of the enclosure should be between [ – 20°C / + 50°C ].
